The LNG terminal in Tornio is the largest LNG import terminal in the Nordic countries. The terminal accommodates a 50,000 m3 storage tank, an LNG regasification system and an LNG vessel bunkering station. There are also filling stations for LNG road tankers and a gas network connected to an industrial area nearby.
Manga LNG supplies LNG and LBG to vessels and road tankers as well as local customers. The Tornio terminal is operated by Manga Terminal Ltd.
The LNG terminal in Tornio is located in the Röyttä port area, about 12 kilometres south of Tornio. The location, in the immediate vicinity of the border between Finland and Sweden, makes it easy to distribute gas for industry and road and maritime transport in northern Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Its location by the Bothnian Bay is also ideal for road transport and vessels sailing in the area. LNG is bunkered from the terminal to the vessel either in Tornio or at any other port in the north.
The Tornio LNG terminal is also an important environmental asset for the area. The sensitive Arctic ecosystem of the Baltic Sea is classified as a sulphur emission control area (SECA) with stringent restrictions on emissions – which the low-emission LNG and LBG meets with flying colours. Improving the availability of LNG and LBG in the area is therefore an integral part of the campaign to curb emissions in the Baltic Sea area.
The Tornio LNG terminal is the largest LNG and LBG import terminal in the Nordic countries and it offers the following services:
3000 m3/h
50 000 m3 storage capacity
230 m3/h
2 filling stations
